Author Salman Rushdie was attacked at an event in New York state on Friday, according to witness accounts and law enforcement reports.
Rushdie, who has faced death threats over his writing, was scheduled to give a lecture at the Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, in southwestern New York, Friday morning.
He was attacked and stabbed at least twice on stage Friday before the lecture.
The author was airlifted to hospital and is now on Ventilator.
Authorities have not released more information on his condition, though a doctor at the event described Rushdie’s wounds as “serious, but recoverable”.
Rushdie’s agent said on Friday evening. “Salman will likely lose one eye."
Police have identified the suspect as Hadi Matar, a 24-year-old from New Jersey.
Visitors at the centre raised questions about why there wasn’t tighter security for the event
