First lady Jill Biden tested positive for COVID-19 and was experiencing “mild symptoms,” the White House announced Tuesday.
President Joe Biden continues to test negative after recently recovering from the virus but will wear a mask indoors for 10 days as a precaution.
The first lady is double vaccinated and has been boosted twice.
A person close to the first lady, 71, told CNN Tuesday morning that Jill Biden is “feeling good” and has “common cold”-like symptoms.
“After testing negative for Covid-19 on Monday during her regular testing, the First Lady began to develop cold-like symptoms,” said Elizabeth Alexander, the first lady’s communications director.
“She tested negative again on a rapid antigen test, but a PCR test came back positive.”
The statement also noted that she’s been prescribed Paxlovid.
and will be following current CDC guidelines while isolating for at least five days in South Carolina, where she had been vacationing.
Even though the country is still in a pandemic, the new CDC guidelines reduce the need for social distancing and quarantining when exposed to the virus.
